CAREGIVERS
Caregivers are essential to the success of the Residential Parenting Program.
Caregivers are qualified inmates living in J Unit, including the pregnant
inmates accepted into the RPP, who apply for the privilege and responsibility
of babysitting the children when their mothers are involved with their programs
(ie. work, school, therapy). Caregivers go through a training program and
once completed, volunteer to provide care for the children when they have
time off from their own responsibilites. Recently, one of the inmates became
the first caregiver to receive pay for her work with the babies and toddlers.
Typically, caregivers bond with the babies that are left in their care.
